The 2018 Annual Report shows 17% increase in sales volume reaching 4.1m tonnes of marine fuels and a positive net result of USD 5m. Coupled with the entry of new banking partners and closer relations with oil majors, the Monjasa Group improved its business fundamentals during the year.
Following 11 years of presence in Singapore, Monjasa now expands further across Southeast Asia.
Vietnam is in the midst of an economic upturn sending ripple effects to the shipping industry as well. Thus, we feel that now is the right time to make the move and build further on our local relations.
Delivering 450,000 tonnes of marine fuel in the Panama Canal in 2018, Monjasa steps up as the 2nd largest local bunker supplier.
Monjasa expects a 200,000mts volume increase from its new supply location Djibouti. The objective is to challenge status quo and provide a valid alternative to the traditional Suez and Jeddah bunker markets.
Strategically located at the mouth of the Red Sea, Djibouti is fast developing into an attractive bunker destination on the busy Suez waterway. Improved maritime infrastructure and heavy investments in port developments are expected to further advance trade going in and out of Northeast Africa in the future.
It has always been part of Monjasa’s business model to build niche markets and offer ship owners and operators valid alternatives to taking bunkers in the world’s traditional hubs.
“As the security situation in the Gulf of Aden is improving, new opportunities arise for both service companies and global shippers operating in the area. Having joined forces with a local partner, we are determined to demonstrate Djibouti as a competitive and high-quality refuelling option on this important sea route,” says Group COO, Svend Mølholt.
As part of the setup, Monjasa imports the products with Handysize tankers, which also serves as floating storage for the operation. Currently the 40,000 DWT tanker ‘Karen Maersk’.
The bunker operation in Djibouti is fully operational and offers all fuel grades according to ISO 8217:2010 specifications.

UBAF as new regional banking partner
As part of the Northeast African operations, Monjasa welcomes trade finance bank, UBAF, as new regional banking partner.
“With Crédit Agricole as its main shareholder, UBAF holds a high global credit rating. Coupled with its 45 years of experience financing businesses in the Middle East and Africa region, we see a lot of synergies in this new partnership,” says Rasmus Knudsen, Group Director, Legal and Treasury.
On 5 November 2018, Monjasa presented JP Morgan as new banking partner in the US.
Global oil and shipping Group, Monjasa, announces new credit agreement in the US on the back of positive sales volume developments across the Americas.

“Looking beyond IMO’s 2020 Sulphur Cap, our West Africa operation allows continued blending and supply of multiple grades of bunker fuels along with occasional onshore cargo imports in the region,” Anders Østergaard concludes.
Monjasa expands its reach to Northern France and goes from two to three supply vessels in Northwest Europe. Providing a niche market alternative to the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) bunker hub has proven relevant for a growing number of customers and volumes are increasing.
Steadily growing demand in the English Channel allows Monjasa to expand its services beyond the UK to cover Northern France as well.
Monjasa is able to cover port areas from Dunkerque, Calais, Dieppe, Le Havre and all the way to Brest. The first bunker stems were completed in Le Havre and Calais last week and were all in the range of 1,400 to 1,750 metric tonnes.
The two vessels MT Fredericia and MT Skaw Provider are currently engaged in the English Channel bunker services.

Monjasa took over oil terminal operations in Portland Port after Aegean in 2015 with the aspirations of building a niche market alternative to the well-established ARA bunker hub.
“Flexibility and short waiting time make the less crowded port areas in the Channel appealing alternatives to taking bunkers in ARA. As an example, we see VLCCs profiting by this solution in connection with short term berthing at oil terminals in Rotterdam, where bunkering is not an option. We are satisfied with the current development considering the continuous challenging shipping markets,” says Svend Mølholt, Monjasa Group COO.
Because of the English Channel expansion, Monjasa adds the Turkish built 2,700 dwt MT Vinga Safir to the Northwest Europe fleet.
Previously operated by Stena Oil, Vinga Safir is already a well-known vessel in the Skaw area north of Denmark, where she completed her first bunker deliveries for Monjasa on 2 July 2018.
Based on total market estimates and most recent sales volumes, Monjasa today covers approximately 20% of the Skaw bunker market.

Monjasa acquires the 3,600 DWT tanker, MT Fredericia for continued bunker operation in the English Channel. Leading up to the acquisition, the vessel has been on time charter by Monjasa for several years and the ceaseless high performance of the vessel now leads to definitive Monjasa ownership.
In 2016, Monjasa established a niche market in the English Channel as an alternative for shipowners and operators taking bunkers in the ARA hub. In this setup, MT Fredericia plays a significant role and currently performs exclusive bunkering operations in the Portland, Tongue Anchorage and Falmouth areas.
The MT Fredericia is a 2008 purpose-built bunker tanker and from her current position she will continue fuelling vessels entering and exiting the SECA zone.
“We are seeing a steady demand for our services in the UK and this is also the reason why we decided to acquire the vessel. Monjasa now gains full ownership of the supply chain as we already control all sourcing and storage of oil products at our oil terminal in Portland Port,” says Group CEO, Anders Østergaard.

As part of the operations, MT Frederica currently completes several weekly supplies to cruise ships in nearby Southampton, which is one of the world’s busiest cruise ports. Monjasa has experienced an increase in number of fuel deliveries to this particular customer segment over the past two years and this summer prospects a busy period ahead for the vessel and her crew.
In 2017, Monjasa supplied 700,000mts of marine fuel across Northwest Europe – equivalent to 19% of Monjasa’s 3.5 million mts. total supply volume.
