Attracting Gen Z: Monjasa hires 13 new trainees

With no obvious recruitment channels for the specialised bunkering industry, top 10 global marine fuels supplier, Monjasa, continues to invest heavily in the early onboarding of the next generation of shipping professionals.

This year’s class of 13 new trainees is the largest number of candidates accepted into the programme since its start in 2018.

The Monjasa Oil & Shipping Trainee (MOST) programme includes locations in Fredericia, Copenhagen, Cyprus, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai, Panama, Houston – and New York City as newcomer to the programme.

We are a young, dynamic company, and the MOST programme is a key asset to Monjasa’s future development. Welcoming young talents from around the world and offering them extensive learning across our various offices will allow them to truly understand the meaning of personal business and embrace our corporate values.

Enrolment in the Danish Shipping Education

MOST is a global two-year programme that offers broad knowledge about the shipping industry through the enrolment in the Danish Shipping Education and hands-on experience in how Monjasa fuels global trade.

Candidates accepted into the MOST programme also become part of global rotations (2×2 months) across Monjasa offices in Dubai, Denmark, Panama and Singapore, China and Vietnam. This provides everyone with a unique understanding of different business contexts and cultures and gradually develops and prepares the candidates for a life in global shipping.

Delivery and dry docking in Riga and Istanbul

Monjasa took delivery of the two tankers Monjasa Rover (formerly Fure Nord) in Riga, Latvia and Monjasa Hunter (formerly Annelise Theresa) in Istanbul, Türkiye, respectively.

Both tankers were then dry docked for renewal surveys, name change and subsequent hull blasting and painting matching the Monjasa fleet design.

Overall, Monjasa’s West Africa operations consist of around 10 tankers while the Middle East & Africa region accounts for 28% of the company’s total volume of 6.5m tonnes of marine fuels supplied in 2023.

Fuelling global trade

Overall, Monjasa ranks as a global top 10 marine fuels supplier and the 13 new trainees become part of a diverse organisation with 56 nationalities working together across 15 offices. Monjasa currently operates a fleet of 30 tankers and barges worldwide and supplied a total volume of 6.5m tonnes of marine fuels in 2023.
