Expanding capacity in America’s top bunkering destination

By ,

Globally operating shipping companies represent an increasing share of Monjasa’s total marine fuels supply. As a direct result, Monjasa is further developing its services in America’s top bunkering destination.

The Houston Greater Area welcomes 1,375 vessel arrivals monthly and sees marine fuels demand of an estimated 4.5-5 million metric tonnes (mts) yearly. To further cater for an increasing demand, Monjasa now extends local supply capacity and product loading options.

“One important element has been to enter the market with a transparent operation and implementing Monjasa’s global customer satisfaction programme upon each supply operation. In this way, we get to follow up on each delivery and learn from the feedback and ratings we receive.”

Expanding monthly capacity to 40,000 tonnes

A key enabler to enhance operation flexibility is by adding an additional barge on time charter as of July 2020. This improved operation can now accommodate around 60 deliveries and supply 40,000 mts monthly.

In combination with improved access to loading products from five different oil terminals across Houston, Texas City and Galveston, Monjasa increases logistical efficiency and reduces costly waiting time for the receiving vessels.

With a dedicated Monjasa operations team handling all logistics directly with the customer, it is possible to offer a personal service and work independently of third parties.

“Personal business in Houston”

“No matter where shipowners and operators engage with Monjasa, they must always meet the same quality standards. In Houston, we have focused on finding the right solutions to the challenges met by our global customers and building personal relations with business partners throughout the area.”

“One important element has been to enter the market with a transparent operation and implementing Monjasa’s global customer satisfaction programme upon each supply operation. In this way, we get to follow up on each delivery and learn from the feedback and ratings we receive,” says Rasmus Jacobsen, Managing Director, Monjasa Americas.

Increasing demand across the Americas

Monjasa Americas has experienced a significant increase in demand throughout the past three years.

From supplying 400,000 mts in 2016, the Monjasa Group Annual Report 2019 shows that total volume has increased to 1,150,000 mts, equivalent to a 188% increase across the Americas in three years.

Panama, Colombia and Houston make up the main supply areas, while trading demand in the ports of New York, Philadelphia and New Orleans is fast-emerging.

Overall, the Monjasa Group controls a fleet of some 20 tankers and supplied 4.5 million mts worldwide during 2019.

Monjasa appoints new Managing Director Europe

By ,

Monjasa announces promotion of Mikkel Kannegaard as new Managing Director for its activities in Europe. A role which has been filled by Group COO, Svend Stenberg Mølholt, on an interim basis.

Mikkel Kannegaard brings ballast from a position as General Manager at Monjasa’s office in Copenhagen. In the Danish capital, Mikkel has succeeded in building up a local trading department and various specialists’ functions aiding Monjasa’s global business as well.

From Portland Port to Cyprus

As new Managing Director, Mikkel’s responsibilities cover Monjasa’s around 800,000 metric tonnes (mts) of marine fuels supplied across Europe yearly. This includes overseeing operation of Monjasa’s two oil terminals located in Portland Port, UK and Skaw, Denmark, a fleet of four tankers and increasing Mediterranean trading activities headed from Monjasa’s local office in Cyprus.

A natural next step for Mikkel and Monjasa

“I believe this is a natural next step for Mikkel and our organisation. With Monjasa’s European activities spanning across trading to contract management and supply logistics, the role as Managing Director requires a holistic approach to oil and shipping. With Mikkel’s experience, drive and ability to making our business personal, I am confident that we can further develop our broad range of oil and shipping services in Europe,” says Group COO, Svend Stenberg Mølholt.

Leading a more mature European organisation

Since 2017, Monjasa Europe has increased its European supply volume by 23% from 650,000 mts to 800,000 mts, while at the same time contributing significantly to Monjasa’s global supply of +4m mts. During these years, the average seniority in the organisation has increased from less than two years to more than four years. In combination, this makes the Monjasa Europe sails well roped to continue matching supply and demand with Mikkel Kannegaard at the helm.

Ulrik Østergaard to lead developments in Fredericia

At the same time, Monjasa appoints Trading Director, Ulrik Østergaard, as new General Manager with daily management of Monjasa Europe’s activities in Fredericia. Ulrik has been with Monjasa for nine years and worked with both physical and back to back trading. His business acumen, coupled with his good understanding of employees and stakeholders, makes him naturally suited for the role of General Manager.

Altogether, Monjasa employs 102 colleagues across its three European offices in Fredericia and
Copenhagen, Denmark and in Limassol, Cyprus.

New visual identity

By ,

Today, we launch the visible maturity of the Monjasa brand and bring clarity to the role we play in oil and shipping.

Since 2002, Monjasa has evolved as a different and unique brand name through the ideas of two young Danish entrepreneurs.

We are now 600 colleagues globally and we have broadened our business well beyond bunker trading. With daily operation of a fleet of 20 tankers and 10 offices, we now take on extended
ownership and challenge status quo on industry quality and compliance norms.

It is the growing trust and relationships across oil and shipping that has put weight to the Monjasa name and recently earned us a position among the world’s 10 largest marine fuel suppliers.

The Monjasa core values have remained untouched throughout this intense journey. So has our belief in a transparent one brand organisation and emphasis on building strong personal relations.
This heritage ispreserved in our reshaped visual identity.

Into the new decade of transparency

Looking ahead, this new decade calls for further transparency across the oil and shipping industries.
To sustain Monjasa’s development, we desire a visual identity that captures the direction we have taken as a company.

Matching how we run our business, we leave our new look simple, transparent and future-proofed for a digital transition in our industry.

About the design

As such, we introduce a new and simple brand architecture revamping the original Monjasa oil pipes into three iconic waves.

Three waves that put together fly the new Monjasa flag across the seas and in every port.

The logotype itself has been separated from the graphic element and modernised to fit and work across the small spaces on mobile phones to giant installations on our tankers.

Lastly, we continue to rely on the distinct Monjasa orange colour reflecting the universal code for safety at sea and Monjasa as a safe port for our customers and partners.

New endeavours await.
